The Affordable Care Act (ACA), seemingly is still a moving target, confusing the public and legislators alike. The ongoing website crashes, both local and national, combined with additional consumer complaints about the lack of clear information, have angered many people trying to comply with the new health insurance mandates.
The government response, to date, involves moving deadlines to accommodate those attempting to use HealthCare.gov and state-sponsored websites that have been malfunctioning or crashing. Fortunately, those hoping to avoid the prescribed penalty for lacking coverage in 2014 still have time to get health insurance.
If you enroll in the first half of a month, your coverage begins on the first day of the next month or after you pay your first month’s premium. Enrolling in the second half of a month means your coverage begins on the first day of the second month after you enroll and pay your first month’s premium.
Keep one date at the forefront of your thinking, however March 15, 2014 is the last day for open enrollment. If you haven’t enrolled with Covered California healthcare marketplace by this date, you’ll not have access to any government cost subsidies for which you may have been eligible.
